How do i get my new hen to lay in the nest box?

I got a new hen about 1 week ago for my lonely pullet, Casper. I have no idea how old this chicken is, but she IS a laying hen. And she isnt laying eggs because she doesnt know where the nest box is. What should i do so she lays her eggs in there in the morning? And she doesn't really seem to be laying eggs right now, is it because she needs a clean space? Help is really appreciated.

I'm a relative newbie, but since she is new to your set up, perhaps it would be best to close them both into the coop for 2-3 days (with the golf balls or fake eggs in the nest). She would see the coop as home, and be in close vicinity to the nest boxes.

Chickens need to be given time to adjust. You have just moved her to a new home. She has to feel safe and get familiar with it before she will start to lay. The problem is not that she doesn't know where the nesting box it located. She is not laying because she needs to relax and feel safe in her new home.

My suggestion is to put the golf ball or fake egg or something that looks like an egg in the nesting box. Feed her good quality layer feed. Be patient as you might have to wait awhile before she is ready to lay that first egg for you. It may be several weeks before she starts to lay again. When she is ready to lay she'll find the nest box as she will be looking for a quiet dark place to lay her egg.

Do you also trust where you got the hen? Are you sure she is not an old hen who has stopped laying?

yes, i do trust where i got the hen. He was a man with experience, and he's the one who took in my cockerel, Popcorn. He said she was a laying hen, and we trust the man. I guess we'll have to coop her up. She likes the coop.

It might make her feel more secure. I bet even 2-3 days would help. Good luck!
