how do i get rid of a skunk

Please don't drown an animal, that is a horrible way to die. Everyone, please don't get mad at me for saying that, I'm not saying that eliminating predators is bad... but I think there are more humane ways to do it (such as a head shot).

I don't think mothballs really work, your best bet is to block the entry or trap and remove. We had a skunk living under our shed and he kept spraying our house. I finally called a local wildlife trapper to remove him. If you can set up a trap, cover it it with a cardboard box and cut a hole in the top for the trap handle. Then call your county animal control when the skunk is in the trap and they will probably come pick it up. Even if the skunk sprays the cardboard cover, it can't stink any more than his repeated sprayings of your house!

Good luck!

What time of day are you seeing this skunk?
If you just want them to move on, play a radio on a rock station. Turn the radio on just loud enough that it doesn't bother you.
They do not like bright light so turn them on. If you don’t want to leave the lights on all night, (my roos would crow all night, well ok more than usual) get a motion light and turn it to max sensitivity. Make sure it’s a bright one.
I hear skunks don’t like the smell of ammonia. Wash the basement down with it and/or soak some rags in bowls and leave them scattered around.
Now even if you get them to leave, it does not mean they or another skunk looking for a comfy home will never return. Find out how and where they are getting in and fix it so they can’t.

Skunks can climb.................
Also I am pretty sure it is mating season for skunks and I had read that the females spray every time they "mate".

Call Animal Control.

They should remove it at no cost to you.

Skunks are rabies vectors. They can carry the disease without outward symptoms/behaviors that other animals exhibit.

Consequently, skunks are a high public health risk.

Let your tax dollars pay for its removal.
