How do I get rid of flies?

Well we all know, everybody in Texas knows everybody in Texas :lau. Have you been to Corinth lately ? I go to Decatur every week and will probably be moving that direction some time in the future. I have a farm and there's too many "city people" wanting to move to the country....lol, they don't even realize they are making the country "city" by moving here. I can't take all the traffic, trash on my property. Houses gettin so close I can hear their doors shut and people yellin at each other.....UGH....

Bloody hell, everybody in these small towns "think" they know everybody and everything about them....the price of living in small towns. :) Last time I drove through Denton/Corinth about 2 months ago...wow...not a good-wow. Dang. Check the property values around Decatur...jeez. Skipping boring details, 5 acres with a house evaluation went up about 15% each of the last two years...that's compounding, I believe, 15% on top of the previous 15%. I had property, she had property, her property was much closer to her work....fill in the gaps here...we live at her property in Wise...she told me the taxes went up and then showed me the letter. Dang. She contested it and got shut down, clean and clear. "That's your property value and that's it."

You could move to Montague County. Have I mentioned my properties there have been robbed three times with recovery only in one of the thefts?

Country life in the Meth Age.... :(

Actually was looking at Forestburg area first, but brother is moving to Greenwood so that's probably where I'll end up at. Have never had anything stolen but we live on the property and there is rarely NOT somebody here, not to mention the 2 large guard dogs. I'm on Ag taxes and don't have other land elsewhere so we're safe so far. What a mess.

last year the flies got real bad for some reason and got into our house, mostly it was medium sized black flies with the most evasive flying pattern of any fly ive ever seen. we got a fly zapper swatter and that works ok for the flies inside though these damn flies seem to be able to disappear into thin air, that or my vision ain't what it used to be. after a couple misses I start to get that sinking feeling that someone is watching me swat at nothing and thinks I'm going crazy, LOL! outside we've tried the putrifying traps and wow, they stink so bad that the neighbors can smell them and I live in an urban area so that is really something I need to avoid. this did work pretty well though. this year I tried buying an 8 pack of fly magnet fly paper and so far, it's working well. it does not smell at all, that I can tell and I have hung weights on one to keep it from curling on itself and I used a tack to secure both ends on another. it seems to be working well but will require replacement more often than the stink traps but I'll do just about anything to avoid ever having to empty one of those stink traps out again. I have a pretty tough stomach and I seriously almost hurled pouring out one of those traps to reuse this year. it was so bad I just couldn't bear buying any more of the lure this year. we also tried a light bulb bug zapper but that did not attract the kind of flies that seem to like the chickens so it's fly paper for now!

You had me crackin up, hilarious. "The most evasive flying pattern of any fly I've ever seen" to "that or my vision ain't what it used to be. after a couple misses I start to get that sinking feeling that someone is watching me swat at nothing and thinks I'm going crazy, LOL! " :lau :lau :lau

No kidding on the reusable traps..they are the WORST and there's always a lingering smell of rot wherever they are used...
Used to use them in the horse barn. But my parents emptied them then, I was a kid. I am now an adult. I do not want to empty them. They are too awful. So I put up an absurd quantity of fly tape on EVERYTHING

No fly lasts long in my house. Between the cats and the dogs, any flying insect, crawling bug, lizard or small snake is soon a pet treat. My cats have knocked pictures off the walls chasing moths and flies, but everything in life is a compromise, right?

I have more troubles with wasps. I'm allergic, so have to be extra vigilant. I'm painting my coop turquoise, like the old time porch ceilings, just in case it will actually help. Doesn't match anything else here, but still a nice color.

Ok the reuseable tub is not working as well as other are getting. I have it just on the outside of the run so the darn hens don't peck at it.
Have the vanilla car trees and they help but this morning they are all back. I just went out and hung 2 more.
man I can't wait to get the darn new coop done
