Help!! I have some Silkies that are 10 weeks old and some other chicks that are 7 weeks. And I noticed that each one has these weird mites crawling all over their skin! And a lot of them too! The Silkies have the most. I have no clue what they are though. They are yellowish in color. I've never had problems with mites. So, what can I use to free them of these nasty things? Seven dust? Thanks in advance!

I have to agree just get the Sevin or poultry dust.. I had never had good luck with DE on poultry or in the garden so I stick to Sevin or poultry dust..

No it dosen't. In fact if it worked at all it would have replaced chemical controls years ago.

And it sounds like you are dealing with lice not mites.

Mites or lice- Lookfor the 10% Sevin dust in the gardening section of the farm store. It works a lot faster than the 5%. Kill them all as quickly as you can on the first punch. Then a couple of follow up treatments to get the reinfestation before they can build up immunity.

I tried DE too and despite a long list of things it was supposed to do the only thing that worked for me was
knocking down the smell in the coop but, then again another layer of bedding did that too. shrugs

I have used Sevin 10% for mites which worked immediately. Just a dusting under the wings and bum
and they were clear.

I must say I have never had mites yet, but.............sevin dust was found to weaken the egg shells of bluebirds and swallows years ago and I hate the stuff. Can never believe that people use it on chickens and then eat the eggs. I know, it works and is approved, but I'm just saying......... Carbyl=crap and I just can't get my head around it! If it works go for it.
