Ok. Today we took them out of the Goat pasture. I swear the chickens get upset every time they see them go. Marched them down to the pond and lined them up on the bank.
We let them get all comfortable and then just to see what their instinct would be we rushed them. A few of them actually jumped into and then right out of the water. I count that as a victory.
Then we settled in again and they preened for a while. Eventually we settled for catching them one at a time again and holding them in until the settled and drank.
Mallie actually decided swimming was fun after we refused to let her get out for a few minutes. So maybe Friday when we take them down again will be even better. Hopefully my husband and daughter will take them down tomorrow without me.
The funniest thing is we don't need to march them back to the pasture. They run all the way back on their own (It's about 300 feet). Then all the animals in the pasture run over to see them, in particular the chickens who adore them.
