Went to the feed store today and they had one little Turken all by itself. Someone came and bought the other 11 chicks (a variety of breeds) but thought this one was ugly and left it. The horror! I think she's adorable. And since it's just a country feed store and they are not what you call "warm fuzzy" animal lovers, they didn't notice its pitiful cries.
But I did.
So I brought it home.
Of course. ;-)
It's very sweet and peeps when I'm not with it, and cuddles into my shirt when I am.
I have 8 chicks that turned 4 weeks today living in one of the nursery coops. This chick is about 3 weeks. How do I go about integrating it into their group, safely? I can't just leave to alone, ya know?
So, advice please!!!

Awww how can a turken be considered ugly?!?!
I had to put chicks in to my brooder too, but they were only week olds. So, my best guess would be just to let them all play with eachother outside of the brooder or something and let them get used to eachother. Just see how it goes. That's the only thing I can think of.

But if it doesn't work, you could always get another brooder and get more three week old chicks ;) chicken math!! :D

"Chicken math" has got me in the state I'm in right now - with too many chickens! Chicks of all different ages, hens going broody right and left...the last thing I needed was a rescue chick!
But she's lonely, I know, so I want her to go with the others. I just don't want to put her in and leave her.
I wish there was some 'tried and true' way that someone could tell me. I've researched on here and can't seem to find anything addressing this particular issue.
Thanks for your suggestion - it's as good a place as any to start, I suppose :-)

You could partition off part of your brooder with some chicken wire and let them get to know each other for a few days before putting the new chick in with the others. That's what I would do.

I thought about that first off. But their nursery is an old converted dog house with one entrance going out into a 12X6 ft covered yard. They are not in their small brooder anymore. I did think about putting her in the rabbit cage and setting it out there for a while. Would that be better? Or I thought about taking her out there with me and hanging out with them for a while. I have a blanket I take out there to put on the grass. I lay on it and feed them and let them play on me ;-)

If that's the case I would try putting her in with the others, under supervision, and maybe keep her separated when you're not there and at night until it looks like she is integrated. You never know, she might fit right in without any problems!

Thanks. I guess that's what I'll try to do. She (?) woke up at 5:30 with her peeping! I went in the bathroom and she stepped right on to my hand. ;-) I carried her around while I made coffee and let the dogs out. She settled into my shirt, occasionally craning her long "naked" neck to see what was going on. I gave her some bread crumbs and put her back in. If it's not raining when I go let the chickens out, we'll have some time with the 8 babies in the PlayPen - yeah, I've got all my pens named according to their function!
Thanks again!

Good luck!

Although Iris (guess I'll have to change the name if it's a roo!) had a lonely night - right now she is out with the 4 week old chicks. I took a blanket out and laid down on it with some bread crusts. They all went nuts. Iris wasn't sure what to do, but she was game and tried to take them from other chicks! When I saw all was going well I left her with them. I've checked in a couple of times. She kind of wants to be with them but is unsure. As they are a bit older they are flying around and flying off and on the little play set I built for them with objects of different heights, ramps, and poles. She doesn't go with them but follows them around. They pretty much ignore her, but at least they are not picking on her. Those BO's are twice as big as she is! In the first pic are Brahmas and Faverolles, too.
Thank you to everyone for your help. It's going better than I expected, and as well as I'd hoped ;-)
