Hi, all! I could really use some advice. The mallard duckling we ordered with last week's birds arrived dead so I am driving out to the hatchery today for a replacement. (Plus one additional mallard, so two ducks total.) The hatchery is 1.5 hours away. The ducklings are just hatched today so they won't need food or water, but how do I keep them warm on the trip home if there is only two of them?

Thanks!

Get some of those hand heaters that hunters use inside their gloves. Walmart, Tractor Supply, Gander Mountian, just about everyone sells them. . Put them under a thin kitchen towel so the ducklings don't rest directly on them. This is what shippers use when they ship chicks in cold weather. They last 8 hours. Don't pay extra for longer lasting 40 hour ones. They spike too hot a temp before they level off for the duration of their warm time.
Best,
Karen

Thanks so much! Due to bad weather we didn't make the trip to the hatchery yesterday but I rescheduled for next week. I'm going to try the hand heaters idea.
Thanks!
