I just hatched out new hampshire red chicks(my first time hatching eggs) and i was wondering how i can tell if the chicks are cockerals or pullets. I bought all my other chickens knowing the sex. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Dave

There's a video at youtube about sexing newly hatched chicks. I don't have a link for you, but search for "dirty jobs mcmurray hatchery" and that ought to find it. It's part of an episode of Dirty Jobs on TLC or Discovery...

I think it only works before they've eaten though, but don't quote me on that.

Otherwise, I can't help you. Good luck!

With the non-sex-linked breeds you wait a few weeks till the combs and wattles on the cockerels start developing faster than the ones on the pullets. Then, as a true BYCer, you post photos and ask for everyone's opinions.
