I was wondering how do I tell if my chickens are "squating"? I know our little ones are still young & probably are not ready to lay yet, but 2 of them have been getting into our nesting boxes (since we put them up yesterday) for a little bit & then they get out after being in there & run around... Is this normal behavior? I think we ended up only getting 1 hen according to some help I was getting in another thread. I just would like to know what to be looking for.

None of them are crowing yet but I definately haven't heard the "egg song" yet either. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

You will know if they are squatting, when you reach down to pet them they will flatten out, almost laying down with wings out to the side and wont move. If you scratch their backs when they are squatting, they will stand up and shake and walk away. That usually means you are getting close to eggs.
