How do I let the broody hatch some eggs?

Quote:
I have a question. My chickens eat laying mash and it is my understanding that baby chicks should not have laying mash because of too much calcium. If I let a broody hatch chicks out in the coop, what about the food for the chicks?
Thanks for info and thoughts on this

ddawn gave a link for a great website - here it is again: http://www.themodernhomestead.us/article/Broody-Hens-1.html
It talks about creating a broody box for the hen to nest and hatch the chicks. It also talks about feeding the chicks.

I love that website! I have spent the rest of this afternoon going through all of the topics! I am daydreaming about starting the garden ...

Thanks for posting, ddawn!

You're quite welcome. I post that link a lot and read it over now and then as well. Now I have more exploring to do -- I didn't know it was a whole website!

Rebel rousing, just feed them all grower or flock raiser, and offer oyster shell on the side. The chicks will check it out but eat little if any.
