How do I make them like me?

I have 2 chickens (amer. rooster and hen) that I have raised from the egg. I have spent a ton of time feeding them by hand, petting, holding, and protecting. They will both will let me walk right up and pick them up when I want.

Don't loose faith but I'll tell ya, I've spent hours working with these two to get them where they are today. It's up to you to put in the time.

Good luck with em and God Bless,

I only got my chicks this Tuesday (9/11) and I'm already worried about so many things. I ordered 3 and they sent 5, which won't be a problem, because my mom will be happy to take a couple. But my chicken "thing" started when I realized that they will eat bugs, and grass, and fertilize, with the addition of tasty treats. For my fenced in back yard thats as organic as it gets. I tend to simplify it by saying "just feed and water once a day for all these benefits" but I'm such a big softy at heart.

Maybe its just too complicated to explain at 12:25 in the morning. I accidently left the light turned off on my 5 biddies earlier when I took a picture of them earlier so I'm overly worried at this point. It was off for about 4 hours and when I came home they were all snuggled together in a corner, but got right back in to their normal routine when I turned it back on. I felt sooooo bad though.

I appreciate all that I've learned on here and hope to continue...

No matter what you do some are not going to want to be touched. As babes handle them, talk to them every chance you get!!
of all the chicks I have raised Silkies, Orpington and brahmas were the sweetest. I raise only silkies now and from the start i handle them. As they mature I start to preen the feathers free of their casings. Especially the males. I find that males dont like to be sung too but love to be preened, snuggled and swung in a swing.
My two males look forward to snuggle time on the swing!!! Gets them every time.

My DD is the only one who can pick up my 2 roosters and tote them like babies and they do nothing but hang on for the ride. Her friends go in the coops with her and eventually the kids will let the friends pet them and a few have been captured but the roosters only go after the males that are unknown to them ( especially the next door neighbor).
