I don't think it's going to survive and it's heartbreaking to watch. She won't eat or drink and force feeding, drinking doesn't help. Her right foot is mangle (wasn't before) and she appears paralyzed on that side. she's just laying face down in the brooder - she's isolated.

I have used the same method with new hatched chicks--equal parts baking soda and vinegar in a coffee can with a lid. It is over in a minute or two, and is from carbon dioxide poisoning which is painless. Sorry about your chick, but it does happen when you hatch chicks.

Thank you.

Would this method work with an adult chicken, I wonder? Provided you had a big enough sealable container to do it in. Also I wonder if it would take a lot more baking soda and vinegar? If anyone knows, I'd like to hear about it. This sounds like a way that I could cull my chickens when necessary... I just can't chop off heads, or break necks, or anything like that. I am, unfortunately, far too squeamish!
