I'm from South Carolina. It's always fun to go out in the winter and count snowflakes. One year I actually used up all the fingers on both hands. I lived in Colorado Springs for about 18 months. My first purchase was a snow shovel. I never used it. I used the broom instead. Wake up to two feet of snow. By noon it's all gone and the streets are dry. You'll notice I'm back in South Carolina.

This past winter here we had to dig ourselves out of the house, thank goodness I put one of the shovels in the mudroom. Over 6ft of snow in our back yard. After plowing best we could with the tractor, the banks of snow on each side of the road were about 8 to 9 ft. Stood well over the top of my jeep. They're saying it's going to be worse this year.

Weve really considered moving back to North Carolina. Hubby and I both lived there at different points in our lives and miss it.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about letting a bird run loose in my garden, as I look out at my green butt feathered cornish cross escape artist. I've heard that green tomatoes can kill a chicken, Looking at my downed tomato plants, I'm not sure that is a negative.

Yes, unripe tomatoes and potatoes and their plants are toxic to chickens. @AllenK RGV , a sure fire way to kill ants in your yard is to pour boiling water on the mounds. However, don't do it near plants, the boiling water will damage roots. You could take a shovel, scoop the ants out, and dump in your driveway, sidewalk or anywhere away from plants, and then pour the water on the ants. Another method is to scoop one mound and dump onto another mound. The 'kingdoms' fight it out and kill each other. I tried that method, but not sure how effective it is.
