How do I sex 1 month old chicks?

If I had to decide right now on which ones not to keep—2,3,5,7,12,14, and 17 have more comb color and development and are more likely your cockerels, but I could be wrong. Different breeds develop at different rates.

Here’s another sexing hint that I got from a BYC-er. In a group of baby chicks, notice the ones that are upright, in front, the ones that look right at you, and come forward first. These are more likely the boys. Pick the ones that hang back, acting ‘bland.’ That person got almost all pullets that way, but not 100%.

If you can take a pic of their backs from above, lots of times sexable feather patterns on EE can be distinguished. Hate to give you more to do, but I might be able to help with a few!
