how do I ship 2 week old ducklings?

What do I need to ship ducklings? How do I do it? What shipping method is safest for them? Is it possible for 2 week olds to survive shipping? They are growing so fast...Does the box have to be full of them so they don't get too jostled around? I need total direction on this-someone asked me if I could/would ship some...

It will be risky, but it depends on how far they ar being shipped.
In most cases express will get you there in two days, but we've had adults take 3 days and even day old chicks take 3 days this was using USPS EXPRESS shipping not very good!
as they where guranted 2 day and still didnt make it in time, no losses on these late shipments which is a good thing..

Id have to say the more the better as they are not fully feathered yet if im correct??(they cant regulate there body temp yet)

More detail on what type of duck and how many you plan to ship and how far they will be traveling may help others to answer this to..

Personally we've never shipped anything in between day olds and 8 weeks of AGE.

DON'T DO IT. I agree with Charlie. Comercial Hatcherys don't do it. I am a hatcher, I won't do it.

ok- I was wondering...They are 2 weeks old (the oldest ones) today. They are Blue Swedish X Cayugas w/ maybe some pures in there too- Too early to tell who is mixed and who is pure... They aren't fully feathered, in fact, they are just starting to get prickly/not fuzzy feeling. I'm not sure how many the person wants, they just asked if I don't sell them locally, would I ship them. I'm getting the word out locally that I have them though, so hopefully they'll find new homes soon. They are so cute, I just have too many to keep.

We ship 2 week old call ducks and 1 week old goslings. You have to order the horizon boxes and use them to ship. We put a layer of wood shavings and cut little bites of apple to put in the box. We can put up to 6 2 week old call ducks in a single stall box. The bigger ducks I would say no more than 4. Our minumum is 4 on the call ducks. Just use good communication with your post office. Ask when the truck leaves to take them to the airport, then have them at the post office about 45 minutes before the truck leaves. Get you tracking number and track them.

Also, since they are more than 1 day old it is against postal regulation to use any other shipping mehtod than Express. And yes, you must use a Horizon shipper with bio-filters.
