How do i stop rooster from attacking dachshund?

My lil dog is a bichon friese (fancy name for yapping lil dog) - and while he likes to play bowling for chickens - he's usually pretty mellow with them. He lays around the yard with them. Sometimes when he gets excited and starts barking at the dogs next door he makes the roosters nervous and they chase him. So far he mostly just gets a "wth" look on his face - so far they have him scared enough not to mess with them. They are lucky - he has a temper - but have never seen it with them. I am glad - if he ever bites one - I'll have to get him his own yard - I couldnt trust him if he ever crosses that line.

Funny thing is - if I bring him out in the morning and put him in the yard when they are still roosting (I leave for work while it's still dark) they don't have any problem with him. If they are awake and I bring him out - they will chase him when he gets in the yard.

Doxies are bread to be hunters. They were used as badger dogs. Badgers are mean animas and it takes a stron dog to hunt them. You can breed down size but it is hard to breed out that instinct that is sooo important to the breed. My doxie has killed several chickens he is now only out on a long run.

My Lakenvelder rooster was getting too fiesty to suit me, but I waited to long to act. He cornered my 6 month old English Shepherd who was far too sweet to fight back. The roo nearly blinded her in 1 eye. I spent almost $1,000 in vet bills to ease the pain and to save her sight in that eye. The rooster only cost me one .22 shell.

The replacement rooster I got from someone on Craig's list has never gotten aggressive with me, the dog or the cats. I will never tolerate an aggressive rooster again, but then I don't have a pet that is out to kill the flock.

Interestingly, I have 2 doxies; the elderly one is the former chicken killer. The other is 4 now, and he's apparently heard/observed enough drama and yelling, and chaining with the older one to just KNOW those chickens need to be avoided at all costs. He will go around the perimeter of the yard to keep away from chickens just to go to the back fence and bark and run like an idiot at the neighbor's dogs!

And the Cayuga drake reinforces the Poultry Ban by nipping at the dogs' butts as they pass.

The two ducks come into the house whenever they can sneak in, just to eat the dogs' food and dabble in their water dish. The younger dachshund barks and barks at them, but keeps his distance. The older one is also scared of the ducks.

...and yet Dooley (youngster) will growl and snap at guest dogs who might walk PAST his food dish! Even a huge German Shepherd.
