How do i tell when my hens are ready to lay???

If you have a good rooster he is a good indicator of egg laying coming soon. My rooster started breeding the hens about 2 weeks before they started to lay. All of the chickens started checking out the egg boxes as well.

6 months is when my normally start but then, I have had earliers ones and later ones.
I know how you can not just wait for them to start and the joy of finding that first egg is almost like seeing your newborn baby. ok, not the same but still an excitment....

epeloquin says it best......
The best answer anyone can give you as to when they will lay is...when they are ready to....

I have golden comets that look identical to yours. I have 11 that started laying at 14 weeks. I have 5 that are just 5 months old and I think that one of them has started to lay. But they seem to be taking longer than my first ones. I don't know if it because of winter or the stress of being introduced to the rest of the flock. And boy was that a job I will never do again! I get 9 - 11 eggs most days. I haven't had any double yolks for awhile and last week I got 2 of them. That is what made me think one of my young ones started laying. Watch for them to start squatting that is the best way to tell they are there or really close.
