How do I train my chicken to recognize shapes?

For my science fair class, I want to train my seven-month barred rock, cochin, and sebright hens to recognize shapes. My idea is to put two cups. One of them will have a mealworm under it. This one is labeled square. the other is labeled circle. I will individually introduce each bird to the shapes and hopefully when I am done they will go to the square when commanded. I will track the time it takes for each of them to learn and use that as a base for my display. But are there any other ways to train my hens to do so?

There are ways to train them to recognize shapes and colors and do behaviors. You'll need to be FAST with reward. Chickens give up really quickly. Clicker training is the most widely used. Dog trainers and behaviorists use chicken training to enhance their skills. Here's a couple links you might enjoy.
