How do I win a Chicken show?

Hi. I'm new to BYC, and I've had my Easter-Eggers for a two years now. Well I want to start showing chickens, but I don't know what breeds are good for showing or how to win a chicken show. Can you help me?

You can find local 4-H in your area or if your in High school Future Farmers of America can help you, When showing, you have to know all the parts of Chickens. It doesnt matter what breed you want to show, as long they are purebreds. Good Luck !

Gold Laced Wyandottes are recognized by the APA and ABA and can be shown. I believe you asked what breeds are good for showing and how do you win a chicken show. If your endeavor is to quickly get into showing and win immediately you are in for much disappointment, there are many of us who have shown for years and have worked hard developing lines of show birds that are very successful in the shows. Many people get into showing and then quickly out because they cannot win in the first few shows they attend, so I am going to give you a bit of advice:
1. Do not get into showing just for the winning, if that is the main objective you have already lost. Showing poultry is about knowing birds, knowing people and getting to love them both. I attend poultry shows for that reason, I love birds and I love people and you'll get a good dose of both at a chicken show!
2. Don't select your breeds/varieties on the basis of their ability to win but on their ability to please you. Gold Laced Wyandottes are not easy to work with and they are hard to find in quality good enough to win shows but if they are what pleases you and you are willing to put forth the effort to improve them to the point of making them worthy of winning a show then go for it!
3. If you are a beginner I would not recommend a laced or parti-colored variety because they are harder to work with in most instances. I would recommend a solid colored variety such as; black, white, buff, red, etc.... While not easy they are easier than the parti-colored varieties.
4. Find some shows in your area and attend them and look the birds over, talk to the owners and you'll find most are willing to talk chicken to just about anyone who will stand still and listen. Often times there are many who would be willing to help you and even get you a start of their birds.

Most of all, be patient, watch, listen and learn. The art of good poultry keeping and showing is not learned overnight and in most instances cannot be learned fully in a lifetime but it certainly is a joyful endeavor!

Hey! New here. Been raising 4-h chickens with my kids for about 3 years now.

I am looking for tips on how to raise better show chickens. We've learned so much about raising the chickens and ducks. Now my kids want to know why other chickens win instead of ours. They are red sex links.
