How do judges weigh birds at shows?

Can they just tell from experience by how they feel how much they weigh? Certianly they don't break out the scales... Do they???

In table top Serama shows they do, and there is a fairly decent DQ rate for oversize birds. IDK about ABA/APA.

At a poultry club meeting a few months back we almost had a couple of folks come to blows over the very idea of even having scales to *check* if there was a question.

It seems like a reasonable thing to me to have scales available IF there is a question.
