How Do They Do It?

How do people come along out of the blue and start selling their hatching eggs for outlandish prices and get it?

I have been in the business for about 3-4 years and I pride myself on selling nice colored eggs with a fairly good hatch rate. I never promise show quality, but I try not to keep any bird in my pens that I would not take to a show if it were in good feather condition.

I know my prices are in the moderate range, but where do these people come from that sell their eggs for higher prices and send you poo?????

I recently purchased some hatching eggs of a special new color because I wanted some birds with different blood lines. I got 7 or 8 eggs, and they cost more than what I charge for 14-16. And only three of those eggs I would consider decent for hatching. The rest I would consider khaki. Now I have four chicks that I will probably sell as culls.

I guess I should have asked to see pictures of the eggs.

I guess I am just venting because I expected to get better quality than I did for what I paid.

Excellent Salesmanship, I suppose.

When I was in the Insurance Business.....I knew some "insurance salesmen" that sold products like that. VERY SUCCESSFULLY, I might add.

Then there were the "Pros" like me..who sold QUALITY PRODUCTS but didn't make as much money.

Perhaps these folks are related to Bernie Madoff?

I've got the same beef with people selling chickens on Craigslist. They're asking $20-$25 per hen, which is twice the going price around here, and then post pictures lifted from Feathersite instead of their own birds. You know they're selling culls, or battery hens, or have awful facilities, otherwise they'd use their own pictures.

I guess they catch enough newbies to make it worth their while, because you know they won't have any repeat business.

When i sell eggs I candle and make sure the eggs are good. And i always give them the color of egg they want too. I try to not ever give someone a small egg or one that probably wont hatch and i send them fresh not old.

Regarding Craigslist and roosters, ran across this ad this morning, for a little more than $10 a rooster, guess it's a very rare rooster?

I ordered eggs that were a ridiculous price thinking I was going to get exactly what I was looking for. But, instead of getting BLR Wyandottes I hatched all Columbian Wyandottes!

Never again will I pay a ridiculous amount for hatching eggs... Well not unless I know they are a reputable breeder.

I sent for some eggs that I was really disappointed in.

I also am going to get some Wheaten Ameraucana eggs from Peachick this fall when I am back from my son's wedding--wow, you should see the color of those eggs (and her birds are nice also), I am SO happy with her eggs.

I guess it is ok to put a plug in if you like someone's eggs!

Anyway, I didn't say anything publically about the eggs I did not like because I thought, well, perhaps they had something going on in their family, whatever, BUT I won't get any other eggs from them again.

I think a lot of people do what I just did, say something nice if they have it to say, but keep quiet if not.
