How Do u Get a chicken Broody??????

One of my tiniest bantams managed to hoard 14 xlarge standard eggs and nearly hatched them all. Something got in the coop and killed her in the 3rd week and broke a bunch of the eggs which had fully developed chicks. All the remaining ones hatched in the incubator. Given a good nesting area those little bantams can hatch a surprising number of eggs. 14 is just the number I left her with. I kept having to take back the other eggs she rolled under her. Luckily it was easy to tell since she was stealing EE eggs and I was only letting her hatch dark brown eggs. I just had to remove the blue and green eggs daily.

I Have Golden Comets And Like They Said They Never Go Broody It Has Been Breed Out Of Them, saying That Get Yourself A Silkie Hen,i Had One Go Broody Last Summer And She Was Sitting On Air,so I Went And Got Some Fertilized Eggs For Her And She Sat For 30 Days And Nothing! I Opened The Eggs And They Were Not Fertile,so I Gave Her A Couple Months Break And Then Put 5 Eggs In A Nest And She Went Broody Again And This Time She Hatched Out Five Babies And She Is A Very Good Mom.i Have At Least Four From The Hatch That Are Girls So I Will Be Taking Eggs From My Comets For Them To Set On This Spring.

When my orpington went broody last month, I found her with no eggs at all under her. She just felt like she had to brood. I wasn't sure if that's what it was or what so put just a couple eggs under her. She ended up setting on them all the way to hatch and is now setting on a bigger clutch. She's sweet but doesn't seem to want babies, only eggs. Good thing I have a brooder.

I had the meanest game hen ever!!! but she went broody all the time she hatched two clutches last summer and was soo mean but she defended all her chicks and even died doing so (neighbor's stupid dog) but I ahve had the best luck with these random game hens going broody all the time....everybody round here wants the game roos but I adopted a hen here and there and they have been the most reliable layers and the best broodies maybe something with the breed. You might try just getting a known broody hen to put eggs under...that is what I did and have had really good outcomes from it !!
