How Do Vegetarians Balance Their Food Nutritionally?

I have heard of the mini cows and goats! One of my friends in my wildlife rehab group has a Miniature Jersey cow, and she's adorable. I think that might make a great alternative for me when I'm older, but right now I live with my parents and I already have some fifty-plus animals. I think my mom would kill me if I came home with a cow or a goat! But, yes, that is a great suggestion! Not have to give up dairy products altogether, but also cruelty-free.

I have heard good things about Dexter cows. They were developed in Ireland for small pieces of land.

I'm thinking about getting a mini cow. They are pretty expensive though... I heard in Europe you could type a code into a machine and it would tell you all you need to know about where the meat came from and even have a pic of the farm!

I would recommend checking out your libraries recipe section.I get a lot of meal ideas by getting books of recipes from places all over the world. Many are veg meals, but a lot use meat sparringly in the meal.

Once your into it it's really easy. I've been vegetarian for a few years and I don't know why i worried it would be hard.
Meat gives us acsess to protein, iron and vit b12 mainly. But these are easily obtained through other healthier food. Vegetarian diets are also good for loosing weight (My cheat to a slim waist xD)
Protein can be found in any beans, chip pea's and other such pulses. It's also found in dairy products. Pasta is also meant to be a good source of protein.
Iron is found in many green leafy vegetables, and pea's. Citrus fruits and tomatoes also are good to eat as they help our bodies absorb more of the iron more easily.
Vit b is found in dairy products, especially milk, but the sunshine helps us with that so time outside as well. I drink a glass of milk a day.

But if you take a look in your local supermarket, you should find many "meat substitues". I find Quorn is my favourite but there is also "Soya" and "Tofu". There can be plain bits of meat but there is also ready made meals with these ingrediants in.

I don't think one meal a week as a vegetarian would do you any harm at all though whether it was nutritious or not, but you are correct, it is a very healthy diet when balenced.

Hope this helps, and PM me if you want any other suggestions xx

Happy christmas x

My family is thinking of eating a vegetarian meal once a week. No, we aren't going vegetarian but we would like some to eat more healthy and this seems like a good idea.

Ditching meat is not "healthier". Vegetarian meals can be very unhealthy. It isn't meat or natural fats that causes health problems in the first place. It is carbohydrates. If you are really worried about your health, try one meal a week where you do not use grains, starches or sugars. For every 50g or carbohydrates you eat it is the equivalent of 1/4 cup of pure sugar. A cup of pasta = 1/4 cup of sugar. 2 slices of bread = 1/4 cup of sugar. Rice, potatoes, crackers, corn, etc.... are all just sugar in disguise. The effects of sugar on health are well documented yet the general public doesn't seem to know about it.

As for vegetarians living longer...if you look in to the science and not just the media hype it isn't true. Too many other factors involved to even make that claim.

As for the meat, grass fed is best. If you can afford it, definitely get it.

Vegetarian diets are also good for loosing weight

I actually gained a lot of weight on a vegetarian diet and developed hypertension. I was vegetarian for 6 years.
