How do visitors react to your poultry?

DH's former coworker showed up the other day and told me that my setup was disorganized.

They're pets who run around the yard when I'm around and otherwise hang out in their tractors which I move around randomly to give them access to fresh grass and plants.. What on earth did this guy expect?

We have about 20 chickens, 4 ducks, and 2 turkeys, all free-ranging. We also have 10 roosters locked up in a chicken tractor, my worthless garden, and a converted trampoline.

Half the people ask "Why are there so many running around?"
The other half ask "Why are there so many in cages?"

The kids LOVE all the animals, especially the pigs for some inconceivable reason. They love the cows, too, but they are worried most about the loose roosters.

With the free range turkeys - it's always does it BITE! He's never hurt anyone in his blessed life, he's a lap turkey, or the girls for that matter.

My neighbors freaked at the free range flock (Rocks and Delawares), now they just want eggs.

I keep getting told by experts that sizzles and silkies can't free range - I haven't got the heart to tell that to the chickens. They look so stupid out there running around on the meadows, I can't help but laugh.

Yeah, why is that? Do mine look haggard? Or does the yard look like hell so who cares if the chickens look good or not?

My mom can't figure out our animal collecting. They "poop all over the place". My animals don't shove their noses in guests crotches, knock little kids down, and chew up the household items. Hers does. And mine provide eggs and meat! Hers eats eggs and meat.

I think the people who don't seem to care just have no experience with them. If someone had told me about their chickens and turkeys and ducks ten years ago, I would have blinked and changed the topic. Once they hold a baby, the world opens up!!
