to find out if feather mite or ones live on chickens or ones live in coop.? Got back my 3 gals. (two are 4 yr olds, BG 5 yrs old) . Thats all that survived from my 11 sweet ladies. after predators etc got them when they were elsewheres.never lost any to predators when living here.
Noticed I believe right away BG had less feathers around her vent. who would be able to post id.that variety of mite?
Not certain if they had them before I got them back or the creepos are living in their bare coop with no bedding just rubber mat on the rv coop?trailer floor\
Im almost sorry I got them back cause mites are so hard to deal with. someone on this forum said some grounds are just mite more friendly. They range 1/2 acre fenced in. just the 3 of them. got sand for their galv tub that I had stored in clean dry wall bucket stored under big overhangs. So no new stuff could infest sand.. I had sifted some
I put that bl bl Poultry dust on them last night again used a Dawn Dish washing handy dandy round "sponge mop". (under wings too) (I knew something was up when I watched them scratching at night.) new item I had. hard to find Got for a dollar quite a while ago. dont know if Dollar General still can get them. to me better than a powder puff.
Im too old to deal with this again. They were gone for 1 1/2yrs. coop was closed up along with gate to . But I did find 3 days in a roll nesting made from grass moss etc in a stud cavity. each day I ckeaned it out. dont know if mouse or was a small bird. so many wild birds around here. @ inch Pw on roof of "run" thats attached to coops. thanks all

See the link below to help identify and treat poultry lice and mites.
Lice you should be able to see crawling during the day, mites like nothern fowl mites normally live off the bird during the day and come out to feed at night. Both the housing and birds can be treated with a permethrin based poultry spray or dust. Repeat in 7 day intervals. Spinosad (Elector PSP) is also very effective in treating external parasites.

Feather Mites (Depluming Mites) you cannot see those and they live under the shaft of the feather so topical treatments and dusting isn't effective, so using something like Ivermectin would be the treatment of choice for those.

please refresh my memory for generic Ivermectin how to use it. can't remember if I bought the Elector PSP....Took so much to other house can't remember if I have that.f
Fortunately left that expensive" Conserve SC" here at this house. they are losing so many feather. I cut some of the vent feathers off.. I forgot and thought it wAS JUST DRIED POO on their feather. Saved a couple feathers and put a sample or two in an empty pill bottle.
Prob got the peppermint Dr Bonner Walgreen brand at other house.
since its only three of them left might be able to bathe them.. Just trying to find something deep they can't hop out of if I let them soak. Since Hubby not here and doesnt want to be Chicken Daddy Doctor again
thanks
