how do you all buy just a few chicks?

it looks like i will order from ideal again. i can get what i want, for january delivery. i'll have to get a few extra to fulfil the minimum-order requirements, but i can find a home for them after a month or two.

last year when my daughter ordered five bantams, they added 15 RIR males for warmth.... she did not read far enough to know that she could have asked for no extra chicks... man we had a shed full for a few months.

I didn't see this mentioned, but My Pet Chicken ships their birds from Meyer hatchery. It's unclear whether they drop-ship Meyer birds or have their own facility there, but Meyer has lower prices on chicks and will have better availability since it's not a "fad site".

At my feed store they put a list out in Feb that shows the chicks they sell. You can buy 1 if that is all you want. All kinds of breeds,so maybe we will be getting 3. If I get from TSC I have to buy 6.They are good for meat birds. I got my first chickens there 3 RSL and 3 leghorn.
