Hey, I'm in Toledo too...nice to meet you...I'm totally addicted to BYC - good luck with your hen & Pls let us know how things turn out.

I'm sorry if I missed it in your post, but, did you add her to your flock? Where they all raised together? When you put her in time-out did you take her completely away from the others for a week? Try completely removing her from the flock for a week, then re-introducing with crate. If your other hens are an addition to this (1) hen then it may just take time. Hens will peck each other from my understanding until things get worked out. I've introduced hens only twice and both times it took almost a month. Good luck. Please re-home don't kill her.

Did you miss the part about separation for a WEEK or so? A couple of hours in this situation accomplishes absolutely nothing except to tick off the aggressor.

Let her go or keep her seperate. I have RSL hens that are mean to my EEs.I got a rooster thinking he would tame those 2 meanies, but unfortunately they still pick on my EEs.Sometimes you just can't get hens to get along.

No, didn't miss it. I had her for over a week in solitary confinement in my garage. That was the first time she laid an egg for me. Tried to reintorduce her in the crate, for two days in the outdoor run,and coop at night. Then after 2 days, let her free. That is when she satrted the attacks again, within 30 minutes.

The worse part is at night. She pecks so badly on the roosts that the ones that are on the roost huddle to one side in fear, and the later ones get pecked repeatedly in the face and head trying to get an open spot.

We have since added a second roost to try to help in the matter, but they won't use it yet. It got so bad the other night, when she knocked 2 hens off and they fell, that she went back into the crate. She joins them during the day crated, and sleeps in the coop at night crated.

Keep wondering if she has some sort of defiency? Am "I" not doing something right?

Oh well, just need to get my run expanded and try one last ditch effort to see if space is the issue she has???

Thanks so much!

Too bad we are so far away, I would take a young white leghorn that is already laying. I have this vision of a small flock in which each hen lays a different color egg, so it would be easy to know who's is who's. The other advantage is your leghorn is people friendly, and I have heard that leghorns have a 'flighty' personality.

My vote-- rehoming. There must be someone up there that is looking. There is even a wanted/for sale on BYC.

NW Ohio!...........Isn't it a small world?

Good luck with what ever you decide to do.
