how do you all pack eggs in a small flat rate box?

Mags,

I'm afraid someone let that one get thru the mail system with inadequate postage. Just wondering was it a click n ship label or one generated at the PO?

Yep, sounds like someone messed that up. I have recieved the flate rate without proper postage and had to pay the difference to get my items. Postal workers do sometimes overlook that it is marked flate rate... If people are printing the postage online sometimes they too make that mistake of just paying priority and not flate rate priority. I find it is best to weigh and check which is cheapest before packaging. Flate Rate is only cheaper sometimes. Usually with things that weigh over 2-3 lbs. Check the USPS online store to order all boxes shipped to your door free of charge. It also gives measurements for each box. I keep all sizes on hand and use the smallest I can get by with safely when shipping items. Haven't shipped many eggs so not real sure on the best packaging methods. Turning flate rate boxes inside out to use them is not recommended they can get you into alot of poo if your caught doing that.

I use the Medium Priority Mail box and a Medium Flate rate box.

Looks like this

I use 2 different ways of packing.

1. I wrap each egg in bubble wrap and Put into a egg carton then wrap the egg carton in bubble wrap I package the whole box around the egg carton with crumbled up new paper.

2. I wrap each egg seperate with bubble wrap then I wrap all the seperate eggs wrapped in bubble wrap again all together in bubble wrap make a bed of crumbled new paper put eggs in the middle and again with crumbled new paper surrond the eggs putting bubble wrap and paper towls over top of the eggs before taping it shut.

So far all my eggs make it intact.

the smallest box i know can be shipped with most eggs is the #4 priority box. i believe it depending on weight would be cheapest. u can cut an 18 count carton in half and send 18 eggs in it safely if done right.

a shoe box can hold 24 but depending on zone sometimes it is more so u have to watch. usually it is next cheapest if 2lbs and under depending on zone.

Oh i forgot to add..LOL

For the Meduim flate rate I pay $12
for The meduim Priority box I pay $7

I think the Meduim Priority box is the best way to go. You can fit 12 eggs in or more and if packaged right they can withstand shipping.

So, years ago in High School physics we had to do an experiment of taking an egg, insulating it in some material and putting it in a box and dropping it from a second story roof. Then, we checked the box and checked on the egg. Guess what worked? Popped popcorn. Cheap, and it handles the impact. Might be worth a try.

but we still have to take into account ruptured air sacks. i got a bunch of eggs, none were broken but 9 out of 12 had ruptured air sacks. i would like to see some more pics of how to properly package & ship eggs that have confirmed good results!
