how do you clean a chicken coop?

just saw a posting of cleaning roosting poles, etc. my girls roost on branches in their coop and their flooring is a combination of wood shavings, straw and sand. how do i clean the coop. should i spritz the coop area with soapy water? nesting boxes - i sweep out bedding, but should i be treating that area as well?

I do a total clean twice a year and I replace the sand. Every few months I clean out the hay and replace it. I also scoop my sand pit daily under the roosts. When I clean out the hay I spread down DE and stall dry. I resand my roosts at the same time and spray with orange guard. I also add de and stall dry to the sand pit under the roosts. I just did a complete clean last week and took the leaf blower to the cobwebs and it looks like a new coop. Hope this helps.

Scrape the roosts and other areas that are collecting manure and shovel the whole works out into the compost pile. If you want to disinfect you can put a bleach solution in a garden sprayer and spray everything down. When it's dry again put new bedding and birds back in.

When I clean my coop, after all the bedding has been lifted, before I lay a new layer down, I sprinkle Sweet PDZ on the bottown and then put my bedding on top. It works great and keeps the smell out. Good Luck!
