How Do You Deal with Stress?

Quote:
Actually our relationship isn't really horridly stressful, my family makes it stressful (very overprotective parents). The most stressful thing in the relationship right now is just who needs to relocate where, he is in Northern Indiana, I am in East TN.

not really, but it felt like it yesterday. I had a busy day and every time I sat down, they started fighting. I finally lost it (after laughing at the tattler who said his brother made up a "my penis is bigger than yours" song), shouted at everyone, slammed the bedroom door and read for 20 undisturbed minutes.

I felt much better after removing myself from the conflict, and loosing myself in a book.

If Im depressed, I myself will go to bed and hide under the covers for a while, have a catnap and hope to wake up in a better state of mind. I may even have a little cry before i go to sleep.
It works for me.
Thankfully I havent felt like that for a few months.
I cant say that i get stressed though. Life is pretty unhectic here.
I guess i try to prevent stress by not allowing things to happen which would stress me. I manage my time so that i always have spare time.

Stress: A girlfriend who is a doctor once told me that she goes for a walk if she is stressed, it releases endorphins when you get to a certain point on the walk.
she gets stressed in her job and yes she goes for lots of walks!!!

Take care of you!!

I like to make something. Paint, make a mosaic (which usually involves smashing stuff!) sand and stain furniture, sewing project, etc. Anything that seems brainless, but actually lets your mind wander to a solution or an epiphany.

This may sound stupid, but BREATHE. Take a deep breath in through your nose and slowly let it out of your mouth. I do this a few times and I can actually feel the stress leaving. After that I grab a good read and lie down for awhile. Or go out in the garden and putz around. Do you have a hammock? I used to have one, and that really helps you relax, like floating in the air.

If it's really bad, 1/2 a xanax and do the above.

I walk out to the coop/run, throw the chickens a treat and just quietly watch them. When I had ferrets, I used to do the same thing - just sit with them and watch their antics. Whether it's simple observation or interaction (such as grooming a horse or brushing a dog or rubbing a cat), animals are usually a great stress reliever.

Yes I agree with that. They have horses on some rehab farms which are there for the women survivors of trauma to pat and groom, they dont ride, just groom them and pat and cuddle.
Theres nothing quite as nice as the smell of a horse when you get up close and nuzzle his neck while stroking his mane.
