here's how it has been at my house, i got 9 leghorns figuring i would have plenty of eggs... then dh brought some more home, then dd snuck a few in... i am now up to 17 all different colors and breeds.... problem is i have to keep changing the brooder....i am ready to just clean out the spare bedroom and lay a tarp on the floor.......i am afraid to look in the brooder each time,,, i never know how many are going to be in there...they are an age range from 3 days to 2 weeks.

Just get a few more tubs for them to fill. I wish I had the problem DH is always telling me I don't need any more. Good luck chick days only last until May. I would be cafe full about putting new ones in with older ones it can get tricky. That might help.

You are in terrible danger!

Your chicks are approaching the point of criticality whereupon they will begin a self-sustaining fission reaction that will cause them to multiply rapidly resulting in a catastrophic brooder explosion!

Under no circumstances should you allow anyone else to bring even so much as one more chick into your home!

At least until you get the tarp down in your spare room.

I have been using a playpen as a brooder. Don't know if I will get chicks this year. Once the smell got to be too bad I moved the playpen out to the garage. I start them out in my laundry room.

I cant even tell anyone how many chicks I have

I have 11 pens outside and 5 brooders in the house

And about 200 or so eggs in the incubators. And about 8 broodies to my last count. It is soooo contagious.

OMG,...thought I had it bad! I only have 11 EE babies, 13 mixed bantam babies,...a dozen serama hatching eggs on the way,...2 baby cochin/silkie cross babies I have to pick up today from a friend,...oh and 25 partridge rocks coming the first week of May from Mt. Healthy,....an I keep finding myself looking at hatching eggs or in the paper for MORE chickens,....I think it is a sickness,...

Good thing I don't get the news paper! But I cannot stay out of the BYC or eBay egg auctions! AAAUUUGGGHHH!!! I have 12 chicks in a grow out coop, 20 chicks in two different brooders (8 in one, 12 in another), 3 ducklings in a third brooder, and 90 - yes, NINETY - eggs in my six incubators.

And the new(est) coop isn't even done, yet.

How do I deal with it? With denial. Of course. Happy, ooooh, look at the babies! denial.
