how do you deal with those that don't get it?

I do have a few that I will be saving some samples for. It is just my husband and I so there will be plenty of leftovers from an entire Muscovy. I have a couple friends who are completely onboard and wish me luck in my backyard adventures. (Those are the ones who tend to reap more benefits from my extras

There it is right there! Focus on the ones who are on board with it - leave the rest out of it as far as the more graphic details...some may still come around...especially once they hear how good your stuff is from the other friends you have!

I will admit, I have a few friends that don't want to know too much - one cousin in particular prefers I don't send her pics of things we plan to share - and I respect that. If she doesn't want to know her dinner, but is okay with me providing some of it for her, I'll do that. Her money spends when she buys my chickens and pork off of me just like everyone elses does right? Just can't send her pics of it "on the hoof"...it's a mutual respect thing sometimes also

Kinda like warning people on here when a post contains "graphic pics"...my cousin KNOWS where meat comes from, but doesn't want the story book behind it...she just wants to give me a check for fresh pork once in a while...cool:) I'll take it!

How do you deal with those that don't get it?

You can't and they won't.

Aesop's fables: "The ant and the grasshopper"
It's been that way a couple thousand years at least, just do what you gotta do and let them starve in the cold and dark.

I agree with all of the above but then again that picture was rather violently graphic in a way. Me, I just let them "not get it" and go my merry way once I've asked them where they think their meat comes from.

First thing is you have to understrand these people know nothing of the circle of life and how they fit into it. Over time and urbanization most Americans are not even vagely familiar with the circle of life and what goes on with it or what thier role is in it. Some people can be educated and understand what you are doing, others can not. My mother always told me. "Convice a fool against thier will they have thier sam opion still"

A great example of this was once I went into a pet shop that had cow hoofs for sale for dogs to chew on. The lady told me that the cows have thier hoofs trimed and that is what they where selling. I looked at her and laughed and told her I had raised cattle most of my life and I know the cow had to die to get the whole hoof! She said yes but that is what they tell the customers so they don't get up set that a cow died! UGH! Joesh Lenon called these kind of people "Useful idiots".

Secondly, our society has become so "Politicaly Correct" that we are being told the fact is not fit to be seen. Yet these same people will show you all kinds of moral depravity and tell you it is those peoples rights to do those things that the states right to teach your kids its ok even if you and your faith disagree.

You see one thing you have to learn is that "Progressive" people are not. They are perhaps the most closed minded people on Earth. Why they only see thier cause as correct and will not tolerate anyone elses view point. IE The occupy wall street group, they are progressive thinkers who will not listen or remain non-violent. They want to take from others and give to themselves. (Which is fine as long as you are the reciever) The same with all these animal rights nuts out there, they have no problem skinning a potato alive and then boiling it or killing a tomato and eating it even though scientist can prove plants have feelings. They are hippacrites in the first degree.

So try to educate the open minded and forget the fools.

The cruel part they are worried about can only be described in the millisecond that you need to swing the ax. The duck has no idea what is to become of him. The problem is not the killing of the duck but with the person (s) that cannot stomach the chore to achieve the tasty meal.

I would not worry one hair on your head about what they think quite frankly.

I agree. The graphic picture was just asking for it. Why not just post a nice picture of a lovely roast duck on the table, instead? Why do you find the need to force it down your friends throats like that?
I really just don't talk about it, except to mention that I'm raising my own chickens for meat and eggs. When I had cattle I would say I'm raising a steer for beef but I certainly wouldn't post my steer with a gun to his head on a public forum or website. I find that tactless.
