How do you DIP a chicken?

Get some zip ties from the hardware store and loosely put them on a foot of the ones you dip. Just not so loosely it can fall off. Or buy the leg bands I just have a supply of zip ties in my shop. Once all the birds are dipped you can remove the zip ties.
That way you can do one or two a day taking your time till they are all done without worrying about dipping the same bird more than once.

Something funny my grandmother done way back when was mix some food coloring in with the dip. At that time she had white birds. Was pretty clear which ones had been dipped and wore off over time. Nothing like seeing purple chickens running around when your 6.

I have never dipped my birds but have sprayed them and I use poultry dust in their nest boxes. I tried DE and it didn't work for me. Permethrin did. I wouldn't put their heads under water. I do bathe my birds before taking them to show. Some pet shampoos have permethrin in them. I spray inside their coops once a week for 3 or 4 weeks because it does not kill the pests eggs but will as they hatch out, so repeat treatments are necessary.
