How do you dispose of>.....

Eggs that never started are bagged and put in the trash. Those that started are buried. I use post hole diggers to go deep, after I open each egg and check when it died and try to figure out why. We have lots of garden space so there is plenty of space to dig. I usually go deep enough to have 12-18 inches of dirt on top of the eggs. After all these years of hatching I have gotten very good at using those diggers and can go deep in no time.

I'm curious why so many bury the ones that started...is it kind of like a burial rite? Do you feel for the embryos? Or is it a smell thing?

It's a smell thing for me.

Smells attract predators. Then the predators will attract more predators....


It's natures way if a chick doesn't make it. Plus, I haven't had time to get attached. Now, the adults on the other hand.

Get a dog and teach them to catch.

Not-very-developed (early quitters) and unfertile egg (clears) I give to the dogs. Or just throw into the yard where the dogs find them.
Ones that develop to lockdown but don't hatch, I usually gently throw in the trash right before I take it out. Usually I open the air cell end up and see if they pipped internally, or died before that, but then I throw them away.

Oh yea, chop em' up kind of hoping it helps the soil, lol, she's just one nasty nee'nee!!!! I will admit, to the poster about egging houses, ever since my first egg was laid......

I've had the urge to climb this tall tree we have, out beside the road , climb up high and hidden and just chunk an egg to where it falls out of the sky,when a car is passing by :d I don't know why I have this urge, haven't done it yet ,don't think I will. Ya'll now know my secret thought

Do it do it! Cuz chances are ten to one that it'll be a very grumpy cop's car that'll get nailed first. Try it and see. Don't look before you toss 'em...that'd ruin the fun!

On 10 day candle anything I pull gets thrown in the field HARD I aim for the rocks. The eggs that make it past lockdown and don't hatch I usually open. When I am done I burn everything to keep predators at bay. I just wouldn't feel right tossing those. I have not had a stinker yet! knock on wood!
