tonight i went out to feed my birds and noticed my mille fleur d'uccle was snorting. We put vet rx on her but no progress. How do we do a nasal flush?
we looked all over the site but couldnt find anything.

I know you can give a human a nasal flush, never heard of one for a chicken. The wife explained how you would give a human one. From the sounds of it, I believe you would drown the chicken. I just have never heard of this for a chicken. Good luck and I hope the chicken gets better.

Mix 2 CC of Tylan 50 with 12 CC of sterile water(water boiled 12 minutes and cooled).

Fill a syringe(withOUT a needle) or eyedropper with the solution. Hold the bird under your arm and tilt it's head down. Squirt the solution at/into the nares. By holding the bird at a downward angle it won't drink much. A little won't hurt. Raise the bird up and let it rest a little while. Repeat process 1-2 more times. You would do this twice a day till symptoms are gone.

By the way: If the Nares are blocked you will need to remove any obstruction/dirt.

most farm/feed/livestock supply stores will carry Tylan..
look in the livestock section..
also available online:

jefferslivestock.com

and

firststatevet.com

Tylan is a good med to have on hand..and the 50 isn't expensive.
(it will keep for a year in the refrigerator..)
make sure you check the expiration date on box.

bad news... i really don't think she'll make it, last night i had to put her on her pirch, she's weak. do you know what might be happening if so, please tell me, she is one of my oldest chickens, she would always jump on my shoulders when I walk in her pen, i really don't want her to die. if she dies i don't know what to do after that, i dont know anyone that is selling a Mille Fleur D'Uccle

please describe more in detail her symptoms..

droppings..color and consistency
does she have breath sounds? (wheezing, gurgling rattling)
check mouth and throat for sores
are her eyes wet or swollen?

is she eating and drinking?

has she been wormed?
treated for mites?

have you checked to see if the nares look blocked?
does she have mucus?
try cleaning out the nares as suggested by above poster.

check your medicine cabinet for antibiotics to see what you have on hand.
