How do you feed egg shells back to chickens

Nice thread. I was wondering about the layer feed after. I am gonna start feeding them their shells back, but was wondering if the layer feed was necessary since the stuff that is organic is thirty plus for a bag, and it doesn't last long enough. Can we switch to just plain organic feed and give them egg shells instead? So far for the ones that are laying all eggs coming out perfect, small at first and then growing in size. All have really great shells. Aside from the feed they do get scraps from us, well anything that is produce related, or fruit. And if I could quit spending 30 dollars a month on that layer feed I will.
