How do you get rid of the rubber smell?

If you use a metal waterer do not use vinegar in the water. The vinegar can have a chemical reaction with the metal or cause them to rust. I do not put vinegar, bleach, or anything else in the water so I would not be worried about using a metal pan but for some people metal might not be the best choice.
I don't put stuff in my water either. My main concern would be the metal heating up in the summer and making the already existing hot water issue even worse. I'm having to go out there and dump ice in their water or change it throughout the day in the summer as it is, but I can't always be there during the day to do it, and they don't want to drink if outside temps are in the 90-100s and their water is that temperature as well, even in full shade...... I'm not sure how much worse it would be with metal vs. rubber/plastic pans, but it seems like it would be worse to some extent.

In winter I use black rubber tubs to water them. The ice does not break them when it freezes, I just beat them against the ground to get the ice out. The black in the sun also heats them by solar power so they can stay thawed into the teens Fahrenheit.

In summer I use white plastic tubs. They can still get hot but not nearly as hot as a black rubber tub would.

I have a heated water bowl for the winter, so I don't need to think about ice, but yeah maybe even the black rubber won't be ideal in the summer, as far as heating up goes.

I now see that Little Giant makes that same size and shape of utility pan but made of plastic, not rubber or metal. It's a livestock pan so I'm assuming safe to drink from. I should've just gotten this, instead of the stinky rubber pan... especially if I don't need to worry about ice (which is why, I imagine, people would choose rubber over plastic). My mind went straight to the rubber pans because they are so common on farms. I'm gonna go and order a plastic one now, and see if I can gift the rubber pan to somebody who wants to deal with the stink (for a free pan).

I have never seen those either and sounds like a solid choice. I am forever buying new stuff and trying new things. I agree about those waterers you have to turn upside down to screw on the bottom. They are annoying and can never fill fully.
