How do you get rid of the rubber smell?

Airing them out makes the smell go away, it takes some time. I use those pans year-round all my birds like them. We also use them for dog waterers, and cattle and pig feed pans.
How long do yours take to air out and lose the smell? Mine has been airing out for over a month and still smells (despite soaking in vinegar, scrubbing with dish soap etc. in addition to the airing out).

I personally don't like using rubber pans as waterers, as (based on my experience) it's really easy for algae to build up in them, and it can be difficult to scrub it out all the way because the algae settles in the tiny little pores in the rubber.

That's crazy. I usually set them out in the sun for a week or two and the smell goes away. :(

The Boston sun in September isn't what it is in July, so maybe it's just bad timing, and we've had some rainy days, but we've also had nice sunny days, like today it's in the 80s...

Could be the way they were manufactured.Someone mentioned an American brand that doesn't have an odor long

I got my chickens one of those very popular black rubber livestock bowls as a waterer. As I've read, it did come with a very (VERY!!!) strong rubber smell. I looked up how to get rid of it, and have been trying to get rid of it, but it just won't go away! I left the bowl outside to air out for a few weeks. I scrubbed it with dish soap. I soaked it in a 50% vinegar solution for 24 hours. I left it outside again. Nothing helps, and it still smells, except now it smells like rubber AND vinegar :hit Has anybody found an effective way to get rid of the stubborn smell? How long does it take for the smell to go away?

You did everything right. I think there's a manufacturing glitch in rubber and plastic production where some products have a perpetual strong odor. That's happened to me a few times with plastic storage bins. When the odor doesn't go away I just donate it and buy something else.
