How do you handle unwanted evangelists who knock at your door?

There are MANY different sects of Christ based religions and there are some that require their members to knock on doors to spread their faith as commitment to honoring the passage in Matthew that states "Go forth and tell all nations about Me". Same bible, same passage, different rules.

Two years ago, I invited them to my church. I see them around, but they haven't come back to my house.

Different rules?

Same Bible, same passage, same rules are pretty much how I believe. Could it be they just isolate certain rules and concentrate on them without viewing the Bible as a whole? A lot of churches do the same, not just JW.

I don't open the door. I am a Christian and do not need to be "saved".

I made the mistake of opening the door once. It took months to finally shake that couple. I could have been firmer but I have a problem with being too nice with my rejections.

When I didn’t use their bible and showed the differences in Scripture, the lady was pretty taken aback at how different their bible was from the KJV Bible. They finally got the hint, I guess. They haven’t been back for several weeks. My Grandparents are preachers so I’m pretty good with knowing The Word. lol

I'd be interested in how/why they shun their children....
Is that a individual decision? or is it required by the church?

Basically it's both....it's a great question to ask next time they come ....and not "church" but God's will.He says you are doing them(the person who has sinned and not repented) a kindness by not condoning what they did....also you are not being influenced by someone who is not in good standing because you are not spending time with them... and therefore if you did continue to have "fellowship" with someone who has shown themselves to be unrepentant, they could drag you down as well or make you stumble...
Also, it helps the person "shunned" to realize how serious a mistake they have made and hopefully, will help them back to repentance.

God comes before even family...I know that's hard for people to think about these days but "Above all else, you must love your God with all your heart...."
I tell my children that they are to love God more than me all the time...if I asked/wanted them to do something I KNOW he does not approve of? I pray they disobey me!

Some sects see it as a suggestion, some take it as a command. Same with "be fruitful and multiply" Some sects take that to mean zero contraception and very large families, some take that to mean multiple mankind, not that specific family.

Same verse, different interpertations.

No not just JW, certainly not. However, I have respect for each churches rules and I happy to be non-denominational.

But at least you are respectful....that says a lot

I like open-minded people!

The ONE commandment that most Christians forget or ignore is "Love thy neighbor as you would love yourself". I am not perfect. I have moments where it is fun to make fun of another, however it is never done hatefully. I think that if Christians could focus on that ONE commandment, follow it, this green marble would be anicer place to be.
