How do you hang your Cabbage?!

So, I have read a few posts on hanging a head of cabbage in the coop, to entertain the chickens. My girls definitley love cabbage, and I would like to give them something fun to do. How do you actually hang the head of cabbage, and what materials do you use? Silly question, but I haven't been able to figure this one out.

I don't know what is a GOOD idea, I just know what is a BAD idea...I work in an emergency vet clinic, and we had someone bring in a chicken one night with about 12" of twine hanging out of her mouth. It wasn't going anywhere. (They had used it to tie up a head of cabbage in their coop). The bird was very lethargic by the time they brought her in. Unfortunately, they elected to take her home...we usually don't hear what happens in cases like that, but I can imagine it wasn't good...

I wanted to hang cabbage too. but was afraid they'ed eat the twine, because they go after the fraying on our jeans and shorts. And they love to untie my shoelaces.
I am thinking about making a cage out of chiken wire and letting them peck through it. And hang it with some thin chain. i have seen some that are in a wire ball that looks like the kind that hold string, but bigger.

I just tie heavy string around the cut stalk end, tight. Depending on what you are hanging from, how long you would have it. I have a shepherd hook that I hang mine from. I have also used baling wire, wrapped around the stalk end and form a hook to hang with. Have not ever had a problem. Good Luck

I have a piece of really heavy gauge braided wire with a loop in one end. I think it was off our old garage door. I shove that through with a welding rod and put a big cotter pin in the loop. Neither the wire or the cotter pin would easily fit into a chicken!

I had put the wire out there to hang a waterer, but it was getting dumped out. Works great for hanging treats, though!

I cut mine in half, straight through the stem. Then drill a small hole through the stem, thread it with a length of twine. And hang it from a hook that's on a rafter in their run. My six birds polish it off in 2-4 hours, down to just a bare twine hanging there.

I did that a few days ago and it works great - although they have trouble pecking at the big pieces if not packed tight because the holder swings around too much - mind you they have a lot of fun with it!

I also smooshed in some bananas to get them going

My holder is mounted on the wall, it is a wired fancy wall mounted plant holder like would be under a window with moss and a plant in it.
