How do you humanely put down your pet rooster?

How long has he been in the house? I have had roosters get through some tough situations. Is he eating and drinking? Feathers grow back and he can hop on one leg. Do you have him on vitamins?

I would call the vet and ask for 2 cc's of banamine and give your roo a shot of it, all of it. I keep banamine on hand here on the farm for the critters and when my chicken got ripped open from a dog that is what I used to put her down humanely. She just went to sleep and no spasms either. She was in such pain and with this shot it eased it and she just drifted off. Good luck this way it kept lots of tears from falling here for me being a meany and doing the other...GOod Luck

OK, I was ready to put him down yesterday morning. Then he started crowing! He isn't really hopping around a lot in the tub (not a lot of room), but he is moving around to get his food and water. He is eating like normal and drinking like normal. He seems happy and comfortable. And his poop is normal. I have a 40watt light at one end of the tub for him and he seems to hang by it most of the time. Since he has dried off and fluffed I can tell he hasn't lost as much feathers as I first thought. He is missing a lot on his back and chest and most of his tail feathers are really short and scraggly. His back feathers look like they are already trying to come in. So now I'm not so sure! I really want to give him some more time, but I don't want him to just live in the bath tub. We'll see what happens in the next few days!

Thank you for all of the help and advice!

I would put some antibiotic cream on him and also put antibiotics in his water. You will be suprised how much they can over come. One would have to be pretty much dead for me to think about putting it down. Then I still wait a day or two. I'll be thinking of you with hope.

Try making a brooder type of place for him in the house. He'll probably have to be seperated for while. Put the antibitotic cream on his wounds. Maybe try getting some internal antibiotics for him since it was a bite wound. Feed him regularly and pray. If his attitude is there, I'd give him some time. Once his strive to survive is gone, then I'd consider putting him down at the Vet.

Good luck
