here is a small update not for the ducks but for my dogs! Simba has finally warmed up to his duckies! It took a while but He now watches out for them and gets close to them, not cuddle close, but he is not the type of dog that likes to cuddle. he is such a good boy. He doesn't let anyone mess with his family :)

So here you have Simba who is a wonderful and sweet protector to a very large puffy white precious adorable plump soft web feeted duck named Marceline and a small brown cute young innocent amazing little Runner Gunter. Where does it end? It doesn't and that's the great thing about it.

@Julie bird haha I love your descriptions! I'm absolutely thrilled that both my dogs (very big dogs) have been wonderful through all this not once have shown any aggression towards them even when I feed the ducks snacks they do not bother them they do come.over to get a taste but soon realize vegetables and fruits are not their cup of tea. They not only tolerate the ducks when they peck at them but they have shown that they want to protect them. Its so weird because they have never let another animal come in our yard but I guess they realize marceline and Gunter are part of their pack :)

Heehee, thank you. It is fun coming up with them.

WOW. Your big dogs are so intelligent and caring. I love that they are guards for Marceline and Gunter. And the fact they don't snap at the girls when being pecked at just further reinforces how sweet they are. It seems in general so many people don't give animals enough credit for their reasoning skills, emotions and intelligence that they rightfully deserve.

@Julie bird oh man, this morning when I.let the girls out Simba was laying on the porch and marceline rushed him! She picked her head up high ran towards him and tried to chest bump his head! Why would she do that? Simba didn't bite he got.spooked and ran away

Ducks just have attitude that is why it's always best to supervise. I have an Embden gander actually I have 4 geese but he lived here since hatch 8yrs now, he would always pop my one med size dog on the butt when she walked by, well she is very easy going too and these ducks/chickens and ducks have always been together , well this one day we're sitting outside and Annie the dog walks by Sammy the gander he pops her on the butt and Annie turns around and grabs him by the neck, she could have easily killed him but I think she was trying to tell him that is enough. Happened so fast we had no chance to stop it.
So Lesson learned dogs don't get to be around geese with out one of us being there. Geese have to be kept at long pole length since they are the worse for being bullies. and so far only one of my ducks[drake] has popped a duck and I was right there to stop any retaliation. They can only take so much. i think it's great Simba wants to be with them but keep close eye on how she reacts each time this happens so you can teach respect to Gunter. I read once and believe it. We as humans are head care takers then our dogs then the other animals fall into the line. People who have LGD have to teach this before the dog can be left with the animals all the time. I still to this day don't know how to teach my geese to respect anything other than themselves. I keep a long bamboo pole with me when everyone is together and use it as a don't come any closer tool. once I put that pole to the ground they can not come passed it.

Sorry to go one but have read too many stories of family dogs killing chickens ducks geese etc.

@Miss Lydia yeah I watch them all the time you.never know, my dogs have fought each other occasionally over food only but there were some nasty scars we had to tend to :( we also keep a stick for such reasons when the dogs see it one runs to the dog house and the other just puts his ears down and lays where he is. I appreciate your comment I would be so.upset if one of my dogs killed my ducks, but I would only be able.to be mad with myself because animals just have certain instincts they can't help but act on sometimes . So good your dog knew the difference between a warning and hurting your goose :)

Not sure if she'd give a warning next time. lol We have to be on our toes that is for sure.I know you'll make sure your ducks are safe and Simba too.

I think it is a duck thing. My buddy has ducks and one of them, the Welsh Harlequin, is always harassing the dogs. She is relentless. One of the dogs nipped at her and it scared the life out of her. It is like she is all tough but as soon as a dog bites or growls back she gets all scared. It is like the dog calls her bluff. I would follow what @Miss Lydia said and supervise. It makes you wonder what was in Marceline's mind when she did that. Poor Simba. I hope he doesn't become fearful of her.
