how do you introduce a duckling to a 4 week old duck?

Julie I think I'm going to have to have a talk with them about trying to be so distant, just today marceline had those down feathers in her nose and as she running from me even juking me , she has skills, I finally caught her and took them out she looked at me with appreciation but I know when more feathers get in there it'll be the same routine. I've read something somewhere(probably a thread on here) where a woman would find dead mice in her duck pin and seen her full grown duck eat a small mouse and went on to find out they will actually eat baby mice if they find a nest ! Deb that is a cute little.story when a duck is happy you can definitely tell :)

Oh my word. That is remarkable about the duck eating the baby mice. They don't think twice.

I hope Marceline listens when you talk with her. She is funny running like that though.

If you think about it, ducks are wonderful pest controllers.

This morning they actually ventured out of their spot and decided the porch is more to.their liking

You did it again with the photos. Look at the precious girls relaxing on the porch together. They are practically mirror images.

They really enjoy the walks and so do I, of course!  They are hunters, which seems strange since they're so doggone cute!
I totally agree with you, Debs. When John, my friend, told me Montgomery, his sweet Welsh Harlequin gobbled down a baby frog I was so shocked. She is a very sweet faced and kind duck and doesn't mind eating critters.

@Julie Bird I hope she listens too haha they will be great pest control one day right now not so much they are either really fancy or spoiled because they will only eat a bug if I hold it in my hand ugh not my favorite thing to do haha. And thank you Gunter is such a copy duck but it is so cute the way she does everything marceline does, and when I snap my finger Gunter will come and when marceline notices the happy peeps she makes from getting treats she'll rush over. No treats and marceline keeps her distance :/

That is hilarious. They only eat bugs out of your hand. I couldn't hold one either. Bugs gross me out. I am glad Gunter is a copy duck because in your photos it is neat to see not only the difference in size between the two but the difference in their body types with Gunter being so slender and upright and Marceline being a more girthy duck. I also find it interesting how some ducks aren't comfortable being touched and others are. Are you able to hold Gunter?

Well both still run away when I go to pick them up marceline is better at calming down quicker after I hold her Gunter still struggles a little longer but as soon as she notices it's ok she's good plus she loves getting her chest rubbed both don't.really like being petted on their backs which I understand it's probably uncomfortable with their wing feathers coming in. I absolutely love the differences between them and how.they make this odd relationship work haha. I know bugs creep me out too but you gotta do what you gotta do soon they'll have a taste and maybe even a craving for them and I won't have to be the creepy bug lady

Aww, their wing feathers. Sweet!! I am envious you get to pet Gunter like that. I bet she is so soft and warm. Add that to her incredible cuteness and it is too much. Like seeing Marceline's cheeks all puffed out makes me want to reach thru the monitor screen and hug her. They do make their relationship work and it seems that is in part due to you making it happen. The two are obviously gonna be pals for life. I am sure they will forage like the dickens for bugs so that you don't have to hand feed them. John told me he didn't like handling them either but he would do it for the sake of his ducks, too. He also goes out into his yard and raises up big rocks and the girls come running cuz they know there are all sorts of treasures under it.

Soon haha, right now when I pick up rocks and things they run and don't come over until the bugs are gone :( you know marceline is actually softer and cuddlier than Gunter is Gunter is still soft but her little feathers are starting to prick through marceline is a fluff ball right now

They are funny. Silly. Go get those bugs, girls.

Marceline is a fluff ball right now to quote you is something that would put me into orbit. Even if she didn't want to be held, squeezed, hugged and kissed I'd be so tempted to grab her.

So sweet that little Gunter is getting her feathers. I wonder how tall she will be once she grows to an adult sized webbed burd.
