How do you keep a dirty vent area clean?

I've never had such "messy" chickens as my 2 new roosters. I constantly have to hose their tushes, but it puts them under a lot of stress, and I was wondering if there was an easier way.

use an old tooth brush

and put dont use human materials
(may cause irritation to skin)

The best way is to adjust their diet so that you avoid foods that cause them to be loose. Harder if they free-range of course.

Will it help if you trim the feathers back there? I do that on hens that have that issue and it really helps
