Its OK to take some time candling. As another poster said, a mama hen will get off her nest for 15 minutes or more each day to take care of herself and the eggs are fine with that. I've read about eggs that were abandoned by the mama for up to a day before she came back to set on them and the chicks still hatched! So, there's plenty of time to candle your eggs without worrying about hurting them.
