How do you keep your eggs clean?

Our coop is pretty clean with using shavings. I clean it completely out about every two weeks, with a lighter - but detailed - cleaning in-between times. But just out of curiousity, does it really matter if there is a little stuff on the eggs? You could just rinse them off in the house, right? Or are they really filthy?

Personally I keep mine in my ovaries...

I use shavings and her eggs are very clean, I always rinse them in the sink before putting in the fridg......is that OK?

Rinsing eggs washes off the "bloom" that the hen coats her eggs with to prevent contaminants from getting inside. The bloom also keeps the egg fresher longer.
Best to refrigerate without rinsing. If they have dirty spots on them you can wipe them off. If you must wash a egg, use warm water.
Wash them in warm water right before using.

THANK YOU, gritsar for that information!! As I said the eggs are very clean, now I won't rinse them till i'm ready to use them.

you should never wash your eggs! you should take a damp paper towel and softly wash it.

Ive never had a problem with dirty eggs. Ive read numerous posts about it and it seems like a pain. My eggs dont even have the pine shavings attached, and sometimes they lay under the roost.. Guess im just lucky

On the rare occasion that I get a dirty egg what I do is to wash my hands real well and then dry my hands on a paper towel. I then take the damp paper towel and just swipe at the dirty spots. Brush away from the spot, don't rub.

I give my really really poopy eggs to the dogs....sometimes scrambled sometimes raw....
