How do you keep your rabbits cool?

The hot Summer is the only thing keeping me from having lots of rabbits. I have only one and I bring her in if the temp gets over 90 degrees. Frozen bottles, cool mist and a fan, that's about it for an outdoor rabbit.

I have refrigerated air conditioners on both ends of my rabbit house (it is about 50' long & houses most of my meat rabbits). I also show Netherland Dwarfs, and they must be on the cold side or their ears grow too long to qualify to show. I keep them 65-70 degrees year round! I was lucky enough to find a florist's walk in refrigerator (used for flowers and 8' X 10') that needed a compressor for a hundred dollars. Grudgingly, and with much to-do my husband and his crew moved it to the house. That was 7 years ago, and I still haven't heard the end of it, but he sure is proud of our short eared show rabbits at the shows.

Rabbits just can't take the heat with their dense fur, no matter what "aids" we give them. So and indoor area (you make a coop for your chickens, why not your rabbits?) with an air conditioner is always a safe bet for bunnies!

Wow, your bunnies sound super pampered! I am just starting out with rabbits, and being in college and just working a part time job I can only add to my hobby farm little by little :( but sometime in the next year or two my husband and I plan on building a barn so we can get goats and store feed in there. I want to have a rabbit room too, so I can better control the temperatures they are exposed to. Thanks for your advice! And to everyone else that posted, thank you as well. I have unleashed my 'coolness' arsenal upon my rabbit hutch, and am pleased to say my remaining rabbit seems much more comfortable, and is surviving this heat so far.

It's been over 110 here, and all I've been doing for mine is giving them some frozen water bottles, and they do have some shade to get in. If necessary, bring the little bunnies in for some A/C.
