how do you know if an egg is pipping?

OK, let ME get this straight.

I was told that "pipping" or a "pip" was when the chick broke open the shell for the first time to make an air hole for itself.

I was told that "peeping" or a "peep" was what you heard when they has put their beak in the air sac and you can actually heard them and when you can hear them through the air hole.

So one has pipping, peeping and the noun a peep or chickie or chook for the baby chick itself.

So far so good ?

You got it! First a 'peep' ....the baby is through the membrane into the air cell, then a 'pip' where the baby makes a hole or crack in the shell......then a 'zip' where the baby extends the original hole around the outside of the egg....then the hatch!
