How do you know if it's lemon (ig)?

Argh! I tried to edit my previous post to add a picture and instead the forum ate my whole post

I wanted to put forward the rooster pictured in this current BYC auction as a bird that looks lemon, but is not ig/ig genetically. Am I correct?

Correct. now keep in mind that sinse those are project birds(dont know if they started with gold birchen and just added blue, or they are a mix of buff and blue) they may carry dominant dilute from their buff parents..(the roosters hackles look very diluted)

this is how a gold birchen rooster should look like(no red enhanced)

this is how a Lemon Blue rooster should look like(with a lemon blue hen in the background)

this is how a Splash gold birchen roo should look(double dose of blue and further diluted by it)

this is how a Golden(S/s+ heterozygous for sex link dominant Silver and sex link recessive god s+)

Red enhanced(by autosomal red? ) gold birchen rooster(black copper maran)

this is how a Red enhanced gold blue Birchen rooster should look like(and not called lemon blue just because is gold birchen and blue,) its a blue copper maran, some people are trying to create lemon blue Marans but are having issues with getting rid of the red enhancers...

and just for reference this is a drawing of a Lemon Blue OEG

Quote: to be fair seems like even homozygous Silver(S/S) can´t dilute a Mahogany enhanced Columbian bird(with Autosomal red also helping out), BUT Di(autosomal Dominant Dilute of Pheomelanin) can and will Dilute mahogany on columbian restricted birds...
So would this pullet (mine) be an example of that? My best guess being a blue (or splash) buff (?) columbian on silver instead of gold, possibly on wheaton? She was a white chick and stayed white for a long time. So that pink/khaki color is some type of red that has been diluted by a combination of other genes? That is blue isn't it and not lavender? In the right light she almost looks pink reminding me of the project color "champagne". I've spent a lot of hours staring at this bird trying to figure her out! LOL

Wow, I'm such a dork, I thought "lemon" was simply another word for "buff". So Lemon is a different color genetically?

And Meara, what the heck color IS that? Very cool. She's lovely.

Has anyone ever started a "What Color Is My Chicken" thread on here? (Sort of like the "what breed is this" or "what gender is this.") I have a Mystery Color chicken.

No. she is just a wheaten based hen. the color you see in a silver based wheaten is not the red or pheomelanin found on gold birds(s+) the salmon color is just their natural color produced by wheaten(eWh/eWh), even if they are silver and lack autosomal red

here is an example.

a Salmon Faverolle hen(Silver based wheaten)

Wow that Yokohama is stunning!

Thanks, that clears up a year long mystery for me

Do you think that's one dose of blue on her or two? I have learned so much from this thread!

Thanks! Her name is "Ghost". So many people who came by to purchase chicks last year wanted to buy her that I started locking her up in the coop out of sight whenever I had people over. I just hatched out my first chick by her.

I don't think so. It's a great idea. Go for it! As far as I know people have just been posting individual threads. It would be efficient and educational to have all the "answers" in one reference thread.
