how do you know if rooster is fertilizing eggs?

Sorry for the late response, but silkies can brood standard sized eggs, a lot of people keep them around as brood-mamas because they're so good at it.

You can pretty much rely on the hen to do everything on her own, but you have to (more so towards the end) make sure she's getting up to eat, drink, and poop, since sometimes they can get a little too focused on keeping those eggs safe and warm.
You could probably sneak some under the aracauna without any issues, since chickens don't keep track of the days, but it might be better to break her of her broodiness if she's been sitting on nothing for a long time.
You can do that by forcing her to get up and move around a lot, and I've heard putting ice underneath works really well.
